《诗》云:"瞻彼淇澳(ao),侵疋⑩。有斐君子,如切如磋,如琢(zhuo)如磨。瑟兮(xi)兮,赫(he)兮暄兮。有(you)斐君子(zi),终不可(ke)召猓""如切如(ru)磋(cuo)"者,道学也(ye)。"如琢如磨"者(zhe),自修也。"瑟兮兮(xi)"者(zhe),恂也。"赫(he)兮喧兮"者(zhe),威(wei)仪也。"有斐(fei)君子(zi),终(zhong)不(bu)可召"者,道盛德至(zhi)善,民之不(bu)能忘也。《诗》云:"于戏(xi)前王不忘!"君子贤其贤而亲(qin)其亲,小人乐其乐而(er)利其利,此(ci)以没世不(bu)忘也。《康(kang)诰》曰:"克明(ming)德。"《大甲》曰:"顾(gu)天之明命。"《帝(di)典》曰:"克(ke)明峻德。"皆自明也。汤之《盘(pan)铭》曰(yue):"苟(gou)日新,日(ri)日(ri)新,又(you)日新。"《康诰(gao)》曰:"作新民(min)。"《诗》曰(yue):"周虽旧邦,其命(ming)惟新(xin)。"是故(gu)君子(zi)无(wu)所不(bu)用其(qi)极。《诗》云:"邦畿千里(li),惟(wei)民所止。"《诗(shi)》云:"缗(min)蛮黄鸟,止于丘隅。"子曰:"于止,知其(qi)所止。可以人而(er)不如鸟乎(hu)?"《诗(shi)》云(yun):"穆穆文(wen)王(wang),于缉熙敬(jing)止(zhi)!"为人君(jun1),止于(yu)仁;为人臣(chen),止(zhi)于敬;为人(ren)子,止(zhi)于孝;为(wei)人(ren)父,止于慈;与(yu)国人交,止于(yu)信。子(zi)曰:"听讼,吾(wu)犹人也。必也使(shi)无(wu)讼(song)乎(hu)!"无情者不得尽(jin)其辞(ci),大畏民志。此谓知本。
