《诗(shi)》云(yun):"瞻(zhan)彼淇澳,侵疋⑩。有(you)斐君子,如切如磋,如琢如(ru)磨。瑟(se)兮兮,赫兮暄兮。有斐君(jun1)子,终不可召猓""如(ru)切(qie)如磋"者,道学也。"如琢如磨"者,自修(xiu)也。"瑟兮兮"者,恂也。"赫兮喧兮(xi)"者,威仪也。"有斐(fei)君子,终不可召"者,道盛德至善,民之不能忘也。《诗(shi)》云:"于戏前(qian)王不忘(wang)!"君子贤(xian)其贤而亲其亲(qin),小人乐其乐(le)而(er)利其利,此以没世(shi)不(bu)忘也。《康诰》曰:"克明(ming)德。"《大甲》曰:"顾(gu)天(tian)之(zhi)明命。"《帝典(dian)》曰(yue):"克明(ming)峻德。"皆(jie)自明也。汤(tang)之(zhi)《盘铭(ming)》曰:"苟(gou)日(ri)新,日日(ri)新,又日新。"《康诰(gao)》曰(yue):"作新(xin)民。"《诗》曰:"周(zhou)虽旧邦,其命惟新(xin)。"是故(gu)君(jun1)子无所(suo)不用其(qi)极。《诗》云:"邦(bang)畿千里,惟民所止。"《诗》云:"缗蛮黄鸟,止于丘隅。"子(zi)曰(yue):"于止,知(zhi)其所止。可(ke)以人(ren)而不如(ru)鸟乎?"《诗》云(yun):"穆穆(mu)文(wen)王,于缉熙敬止!"为人君,止(zhi)于仁;为人臣,止于敬(jing);为人子,止(zhi)于孝;为(wei)人父,止于慈;与(yu)国(guo)人交,止于信(xin)。子曰(yue):"听(ting)讼(song),吾犹(you)人也(ye)。必也使无(wu)讼乎(hu)!"无情者(zhe)不得尽其辞,大畏民志。此谓知(zhi)本。
