《诗》云(yun):"瞻彼(bi)淇(qi)澳,侵疋⑩。有(you)斐君子,如(ru)切如磋,如琢(zhuo)如磨。瑟兮兮,赫兮(xi)暄(xuan)兮。有斐(fei)君子(zi),终不(bu)可(ke)召猓(guo)""如切如磋"者,道(dao)学(xue)也。"如琢如磨"者,自(zi)修也。"瑟兮兮"者(zhe),恂也。"赫兮喧(xuan)兮"者(zhe),威仪也。"有斐(fei)君子,终不可召"者,道(dao)盛德至善(shan),民(min)之不(bu)能忘也(ye)。《诗》云:"于(yu)戏(xi)前王(wang)不忘!"君子贤(xian)其(qi)贤(xian)而亲其亲,小人乐其乐(le)而(er)利其(qi)利,此以(yi)没(mei)世不忘也。《康诰》曰:"克(ke)明(ming)德。"《大甲》曰:"顾(gu)天之明命。"《帝典》曰:"克明峻德。"皆(jie)自明也。汤之《盘铭》曰:"苟日新,日(ri)日新(xin),又日(ri)新。"《康诰》曰(yue):"作新民(min)。"《诗(shi)》曰:"周虽旧邦(bang),其命惟新。"是(shi)故君子无所不(bu)用其极。《诗》云:"邦畿千里,惟民所止。"《诗(shi)》云:"缗(min)蛮(man)黄鸟,止于丘隅。"子曰:"于止(zhi),知其(qi)所止。可以人而不如鸟(niao)乎?"《诗(shi)》云(yun):"穆(mu)穆(mu)文王,于缉熙敬(jing)止!"为(wei)人(ren)君,止(zhi)于仁;为人臣,止于敬;为(wei)人子(zi),止于孝;为人父,止于(yu)慈;与(yu)国人交,止于信。子(zi)曰:"听(ting)讼(song),吾犹人也。必也使(shi)无讼(song)乎!"无情者(zhe)不(bu)得尽其辞(ci),大畏民志。此谓知本(ben)。
