《诗》云:"瞻彼淇澳,侵(qin)疋⑩。有(you)斐君(jun1)子,如切如磋,如(ru)琢如磨。瑟兮兮,赫兮暄兮。有斐(fei)君(jun1)子(zi),终(zhong)不可(ke)召(zhao)猓""如切如(ru)磋"者,道(dao)学(xue)也。"如琢如(ru)磨(mo)"者,自修也。"瑟兮(xi)兮(xi)"者(zhe),恂也。"赫(he)兮喧兮"者,威仪也。"有斐(fei)君子(zi),终不可召"者(zhe),道(dao)盛德至善,民之不(bu)能(neng)忘也。《诗(shi)》云(yun):"于戏前(qian)王(wang)不忘(wang)!"君子贤其贤(xian)而亲(qin)其亲,小(xiao)人(ren)乐其(qi)乐而利其利,此以没世不忘也。《康(kang)诰》曰:"克明(ming)德。"《大甲》曰(yue):"顾天之明命。"《帝典》曰:"克明峻德。"皆自(zi)明(ming)也。汤(tang)之《盘铭》曰:"苟日新,日(ri)日新,又日新。"《康诰》曰:"作新民。"《诗(shi)》曰(yue):"周虽旧(jiu)邦(bang),其命(ming)惟新。"是故(gu)君(jun1)子无所不用(yong)其(qi)极。《诗》云:"邦畿千里,惟(wei)民所止。"《诗》云:"缗蛮黄鸟(niao),止(zhi)于丘隅。"子曰:"于(yu)止,知其所止(zhi)。可以人而不如鸟(niao)乎?"《诗》云:"穆穆文王,于缉(ji)熙敬止!"为(wei)人(ren)君(jun1),止于仁(ren);为人臣(chen),止于敬;为人(ren)子(zi),止(zhi)于(yu)孝(xiao);为(wei)人父,止(zhi)于慈;与国人交,止于信。子曰:"听讼(song),吾犹人也。必也使无讼乎!"无情者不得尽其辞,大畏民志。此谓知(zhi)本。
