《诗》云:"瞻(zhan)彼淇澳,侵疋(ya)⑩。有斐君子(zi),如切如磋,如琢如(ru)磨。瑟兮(xi)兮(xi),赫兮暄兮。有(you)斐君子(zi),终不(bu)可召猓""如(ru)切如(ru)磋"者,道学(xue)也(ye)。"如(ru)琢(zhuo)如磨"者(zhe),自(zi)修(xiu)也。"瑟兮(xi)兮"者,恂也(ye)。"赫兮喧(xuan)兮"者,威(wei)仪(yi)也。"有斐君子,终不(bu)可召"者(zhe),道盛德(de)至善,民(min)之不能忘(wang)也(ye)。《诗》云:"于戏前(qian)王不忘!"君(jun1)子贤(xian)其贤(xian)而亲其亲,小人(ren)乐其(qi)乐而利(li)其利,此以没世不忘(wang)也。《康诰》曰:"克(ke)明(ming)德。"《大甲》曰:"顾天(tian)之明命(ming)。"《帝典》曰:"克(ke)明峻德。"皆自明也。汤之《盘铭》曰(yue):"苟日新(xin),日日新,又日新。"《康诰(gao)》曰:"作新民。"《诗(shi)》曰(yue):"周虽旧邦,其命惟新。"是故君子(zi)无所不用(yong)其极(ji)。《诗(shi)》云(yun):"邦畿千里,惟民所止。"《诗》云:"缗蛮(man)黄鸟,止(zhi)于丘隅。"子曰:"于(yu)止,知其(qi)所(suo)止。可以人(ren)而不(bu)如(ru)鸟乎?"《诗》云:"穆穆文王,于(yu)缉熙敬(jing)止!"为(wei)人君,止(zhi)于仁;为人臣,止(zhi)于敬;为人(ren)子(zi),止于孝(xiao);为(wei)人(ren)父,止于慈;与国人交,止(zhi)于信。子曰:"听讼,吾犹(you)人也。必(bi)也使无讼(song)乎!"无(wu)情者不得尽其辞,大畏民志。此谓知本。
