《诗》云(yun):"瞻(zhan)彼淇澳,侵疋(ya)⑩。有斐君子,如切如(ru)磋(cuo),如(ru)琢如磨。瑟兮兮,赫兮暄(xuan)兮。有(you)斐君子,终不可召猓""如(ru)切如磋(cuo)"者,道(dao)学也(ye)。"如琢如(ru)磨"者,自修也。"瑟兮兮"者,恂(xun)也。"赫兮喧兮(xi)"者,威(wei)仪也。"有斐君(jun1)子,终不可(ke)召(zhao)"者(zhe),道盛德至善,民之不(bu)能忘也。《诗》云:"于戏前王不(bu)忘(wang)!"君子贤其(qi)贤而亲其亲(qin),小人(ren)乐其乐而利其利,此以(yi)没世不忘(wang)也(ye)。《康诰》曰:"克明(ming)德。"《大甲》曰:"顾天(tian)之(zhi)明(ming)命。"《帝典》曰:"克(ke)明(ming)峻德。"皆(jie)自(zi)明也。汤之《盘铭(ming)》曰:"苟(gou)日新,日日(ri)新,又日新(xin)。"《康诰》曰(yue):"作新民。"《诗》曰:"周虽旧邦,其命(ming)惟新。"是故君子无(wu)所不用其极(ji)。《诗》云:"邦(bang)畿千里,惟民所止。"《诗》云:"缗蛮黄(huang)鸟,止(zhi)于丘隅(yu)。"子曰(yue):"于止,知其(qi)所止(zhi)。可(ke)以人(ren)而不如(ru)鸟乎?"《诗》云:"穆(mu)穆(mu)文王,于缉熙敬(jing)止!"为人(ren)君(jun1),止于仁;为人臣,止于(yu)敬;为(wei)人子,止于孝(xiao);为(wei)人父,止于(yu)慈(ci);与(yu)国人交(jiao),止于信。子曰:"听讼,吾(wu)犹(you)人也。必(bi)也使无(wu)讼乎!"无(wu)情者不得尽(jin)其辞(ci),大畏民志。此谓(wei)知本。
