《诗(shi)》云:"瞻(zhan)彼淇澳,侵疋⑩。有(you)斐(fei)君子,如(ru)切(qie)如磋,如琢(zhuo)如磨。瑟兮(xi)兮,赫兮暄兮。有斐君子,终不可召(zhao)猓(guo)""如(ru)切如(ru)磋"者,道(dao)学也。"如(ru)琢如磨"者,自(zi)修也。"瑟兮兮"者,恂也(ye)。"赫(he)兮喧兮"者(zhe),威仪(yi)也。"有(you)斐君子,终不可召"者,道盛德至(zhi)善(shan),民之(zhi)不(bu)能忘也(ye)。《诗(shi)》云:"于戏前王不忘!"君子(zi)贤其贤而(er)亲其亲,小人(ren)乐(le)其乐而利其(qi)利(li),此以没世(shi)不(bu)忘也。《康诰(gao)》曰(yue):"克明(ming)德。"《大甲》曰(yue):"顾天之(zhi)明(ming)命。"《帝典(dian)》曰(yue):"克明峻德。"皆自明也。汤(tang)之《盘铭》曰:"苟日新(xin),日日新,又日新。"《康诰(gao)》曰:"作新民。"《诗》曰:"周虽旧邦(bang),其(qi)命惟(wei)新。"是故君子无(wu)所不(bu)用其极(ji)。《诗》云(yun):"邦畿(ji)千(qian)里,惟民所止(zhi)。"《诗》云:"缗蛮(man)黄鸟,止于丘(qiu)隅。"子曰:"于止(zhi),知(zhi)其所止(zhi)。可以人(ren)而不如鸟乎?"《诗》云:"穆(mu)穆(mu)文(wen)王,于(yu)缉熙敬止!"为(wei)人君(jun1),止(zhi)于(yu)仁(ren);为人臣,止于敬;为人子(zi),止(zhi)于孝;为(wei)人父,止(zhi)于(yu)慈;与国(guo)人交,止于信(xin)。子(zi)曰:"听讼(song),吾犹人也。必也使无讼乎!"无(wu)情者不得(de)尽其辞,大畏民志(zhi)。此谓知(zhi)本(ben)。
