《诗》云:"瞻彼淇(qi)澳(ao),侵疋(ya)⑩。有斐君子(zi),如切如(ru)磋,如琢如磨(mo)。瑟(se)兮(xi)兮,赫兮暄(xuan)兮(xi)。有斐君子(zi),终不可召(zhao)猓""如切如磋"者,道学(xue)也。"如琢如磨"者,自修也。"瑟兮(xi)兮(xi)"者,恂也(ye)。"赫兮(xi)喧(xuan)兮"者,威仪也(ye)。"有斐(fei)君子,终不可召(zhao)"者,道盛(sheng)德至善,民(min)之不(bu)能忘也。《诗》云:"于戏前王不忘(wang)!"君子贤(xian)其贤而亲(qin)其亲,小人乐其乐而利其利(li),此(ci)以没世不忘也。《康(kang)诰》曰:"克(ke)明德。"《大甲》曰(yue):"顾(gu)天之(zhi)明命。"《帝典(dian)》曰(yue):"克明(ming)峻德。"皆自明也。汤之《盘(pan)铭》曰:"苟日新,日日新,又日新。"《康(kang)诰(gao)》曰:"作新民。"《诗》曰:"周(zhou)虽(sui)旧邦,其命惟新。"是故(gu)君子无(wu)所(suo)不(bu)用其极。《诗》云(yun):"邦畿千里,惟民(min)所止(zhi)。"《诗》云:"缗(min)蛮(man)黄鸟(niao),止于丘隅。"子曰:"于止,知其所止。可(ke)以人而不如鸟乎?"《诗》云:"穆穆文王,于(yu)缉(ji)熙敬止(zhi)!"为人君,止于(yu)仁;为人臣,止(zhi)于敬;为人子,止于孝;为人父,止于慈;与(yu)国人交,止(zhi)于(yu)信。子曰:"听讼(song),吾(wu)犹人也。必也使(shi)无(wu)讼(song)乎(hu)!"无情者不得尽其(qi)辞,大畏民志。此谓知(zhi)本。
