《诗》云:"瞻彼淇(qi)澳,侵疋(ya)⑩。有(you)斐(fei)君(jun1)子,如切(qie)如磋(cuo),如琢如(ru)磨。瑟兮(xi)兮,赫兮暄兮。有(you)斐(fei)君子,终不可(ke)召猓""如切(qie)如磋"者,道(dao)学也。"如琢如磨"者,自(zi)修也。"瑟兮(xi)兮"者,恂也。"赫兮(xi)喧兮(xi)"者,威仪也。"有斐(fei)君子,终(zhong)不可(ke)召"者,道盛德(de)至善,民(min)之不(bu)能忘也。《诗》云:"于戏前王不忘(wang)!"君子贤其贤而亲(qin)其亲,小(xiao)人乐其乐而利其利(li),此以没世不(bu)忘也。《康诰》曰:"克明德。"《大甲(jia)》曰(yue):"顾天之(zhi)明命(ming)。"《帝典》曰:"克(ke)明峻德。"皆(jie)自(zi)明也。汤(tang)之《盘铭(ming)》曰:"苟日(ri)新,日日(ri)新,又日新。"《康(kang)诰》曰:"作新民。"《诗(shi)》曰:"周虽旧邦,其命惟新(xin)。"是故君(jun1)子(zi)无所不用其极。《诗》云:"邦(bang)畿(ji)千里,惟民所止。"《诗(shi)》云:"缗蛮(man)黄(huang)鸟,止于丘(qiu)隅。"子(zi)曰:"于(yu)止,知其(qi)所止。可(ke)以人而不如鸟乎?"《诗》云:"穆穆(mu)文王,于缉熙(xi)敬(jing)止!"为人(ren)君,止(zhi)于仁;为人臣,止(zhi)于(yu)敬(jing);为人子,止于孝;为人父,止于慈;与(yu)国人交,止(zhi)于信。子(zi)曰:"听讼(song),吾犹人也。必也使无讼乎(hu)!"无情(qing)者不得(de)尽其(qi)辞(ci),大畏民志(zhi)。此谓知本。
