《诗(shi)》云(yun):"瞻彼淇澳(ao),侵疋(ya)⑩。有(you)斐(fei)君(jun1)子,如切如磋(cuo),如琢如磨。瑟兮兮(xi),赫兮暄兮。有斐(fei)君(jun1)子,终(zhong)不可召(zhao)猓""如切如磋(cuo)"者,道学也。"如琢如(ru)磨"者,自(zi)修也。"瑟兮(xi)兮"者(zhe),恂也。"赫(he)兮喧兮"者(zhe),威仪也。"有斐君(jun1)子(zi),终不(bu)可召"者(zhe),道(dao)盛(sheng)德至(zhi)善,民之不能(neng)忘(wang)也。《诗》云:"于戏(xi)前王不(bu)忘!"君子贤(xian)其(qi)贤而(er)亲其亲,小人乐其(qi)乐而利其利,此以没(mei)世不(bu)忘也(ye)。《康诰(gao)》曰:"克明德。"《大(da)甲(jia)》曰(yue):"顾天之(zhi)明命。"《帝典》曰:"克明峻德(de)。"皆自明也。汤之(zhi)《盘铭(ming)》曰:"苟日新,日(ri)日新,又(you)日新。"《康诰》曰:"作新民(min)。"《诗》曰(yue):"周虽旧邦,其(qi)命惟(wei)新。"是故(gu)君子无(wu)所不用(yong)其极(ji)。《诗》云:"邦(bang)畿千里,惟民所(suo)止(zhi)。"《诗》云(yun):"缗蛮黄(huang)鸟,止(zhi)于丘隅。"子曰:"于止(zhi),知其所(suo)止。可以人而不如(ru)鸟乎?"《诗》云:"穆穆(mu)文(wen)王,于缉熙敬(jing)止(zhi)!"为人君,止于(yu)仁;为(wei)人臣,止于敬;为(wei)人子(zi),止于孝(xiao);为人父,止于慈(ci);与国人(ren)交,止于信。子曰:"听讼(song),吾犹人也。必也(ye)使无(wu)讼(song)乎!"无情者不得尽其辞(ci),大畏民(min)志。此谓知本。
