《诗》云:"瞻彼淇(qi)澳,侵疋⑩。有(you)斐君(jun1)子,如切(qie)如(ru)磋,如琢如磨。瑟兮兮,赫兮暄(xuan)兮。有斐(fei)君子,终不可召(zhao)猓""如切如磋"者(zhe),道学(xue)也(ye)。"如琢(zhuo)如(ru)磨"者,自修也。"瑟兮(xi)兮(xi)"者,恂也(ye)。"赫兮喧兮(xi)"者,威仪也。"有斐(fei)君子(zi),终不可召"者,道(dao)盛(sheng)德至善,民之(zhi)不(bu)能忘也。《诗(shi)》云(yun):"于戏前王不(bu)忘(wang)!"君子(zi)贤其贤而亲其(qi)亲,小人乐其(qi)乐而利其利,此(ci)以没世不忘(wang)也。《康诰》曰:"克明(ming)德。"《大甲》曰(yue):"顾天(tian)之明命。"《帝(di)典》曰:"克明峻德。"皆自(zi)明(ming)也。汤之(zhi)《盘铭》曰(yue):"苟日新,日日新,又日新。"《康诰》曰:"作新民。"《诗》曰:"周虽旧邦,其(qi)命惟(wei)新。"是(shi)故君(jun1)子无(wu)所不用(yong)其极(ji)。《诗》云:"邦畿千里,惟民所止(zhi)。"《诗(shi)》云:"缗(min)蛮黄鸟,止于(yu)丘隅。"子曰:"于(yu)止,知其所止。可以人而不(bu)如鸟(niao)乎(hu)?"《诗(shi)》云:"穆穆文王,于缉(ji)熙敬(jing)止!"为人君,止于仁;为(wei)人臣,止于敬(jing);为人子,止于(yu)孝;为人父(fu),止于慈;与国人交,止于信。子曰:"听讼(song),吾犹(you)人也(ye)。必(bi)也(ye)使(shi)无(wu)讼乎!"无情者不得尽(jin)其辞,大(da)畏民(min)志(zhi)。此谓知本。
