《诗》云:"瞻(zhan)彼淇(qi)澳,侵疋⑩。有斐君子,如切如磋,如(ru)琢(zhuo)如磨。瑟(se)兮兮,赫(he)兮暄兮。有斐君子,终不(bu)可召(zhao)猓""如切如(ru)磋"者,道学(xue)也。"如琢如磨"者,自修(xiu)也。"瑟(se)兮兮"者(zhe),恂也(ye)。"赫兮(xi)喧兮(xi)"者,威(wei)仪也。"有斐(fei)君子,终不(bu)可召"者(zhe),道盛德至善,民之(zhi)不能忘也(ye)。《诗》云:"于戏前王不忘!"君子贤(xian)其(qi)贤而亲其亲,小人(ren)乐其(qi)乐而利其利,此以(yi)没世(shi)不忘(wang)也。《康诰》曰:"克明德(de)。"《大甲》曰:"顾天之(zhi)明命。"《帝典(dian)》曰:"克明峻德。"皆(jie)自明也(ye)。汤之《盘铭》曰:"苟日新,日日新,又日新。"《康诰(gao)》曰:"作(zuo)新民。"《诗(shi)》曰:"周虽旧邦(bang),其命(ming)惟(wei)新。"是(shi)故(gu)君子无所不(bu)用其(qi)极。《诗》云:"邦(bang)畿千里,惟民所止。"《诗》云:"缗(min)蛮黄鸟,止(zhi)于(yu)丘(qiu)隅。"子曰:"于(yu)止(zhi),知(zhi)其所止。可(ke)以人而不如鸟乎?"《诗(shi)》云:"穆(mu)穆(mu)文王(wang),于缉熙敬止!"为(wei)人君,止于仁;为(wei)人臣,止于敬;为人子,止于孝;为人父(fu),止于慈(ci);与国(guo)人(ren)交(jiao),止于(yu)信。子曰:"听讼,吾犹(you)人也。必(bi)也(ye)使无讼(song)乎!"无情者不(bu)得尽(jin)其(qi)辞,大畏(wei)民志。此谓知本。
