《诗(shi)》云(yun):"瞻(zhan)彼淇(qi)澳,侵(qin)疋⑩。有斐君(jun1)子,如切(qie)如磋,如琢如(ru)磨。瑟兮(xi)兮,赫兮暄兮。有斐(fei)君子,终不可召(zhao)猓(guo)""如切如(ru)磋(cuo)"者,道学也。"如(ru)琢如(ru)磨"者,自修(xiu)也。"瑟兮兮(xi)"者,恂也。"赫兮喧兮"者,威仪也。"有斐君子,终不可召(zhao)"者,道盛德至善,民之不(bu)能忘也。《诗》云:"于戏前王不忘(wang)!"君(jun1)子贤其贤(xian)而亲其亲,小人(ren)乐其乐而(er)利其(qi)利,此以没世不忘也(ye)。《康诰》曰:"克明(ming)德。"《大甲》曰:"顾天(tian)之(zhi)明(ming)命(ming)。"《帝典(dian)》曰(yue):"克明(ming)峻(jun4)德。"皆自明也。汤之《盘铭》曰:"苟日新,日日新,又(you)日新。"《康(kang)诰(gao)》曰:"作新民(min)。"《诗》曰(yue):"周虽旧邦(bang),其命惟新(xin)。"是故(gu)君子无所不用其极。《诗》云(yun):"邦(bang)畿(ji)千(qian)里(li),惟民所止。"《诗》云:"缗蛮(man)黄鸟(niao),止于丘(qiu)隅。"子曰:"于(yu)止,知其所止(zhi)。可(ke)以人而(er)不(bu)如(ru)鸟乎?"《诗(shi)》云:"穆(mu)穆(mu)文王(wang),于缉熙敬(jing)止!"为(wei)人君,止于仁(ren);为人臣,止于敬(jing);为人子,止于孝;为人父,止于慈;与国人交,止于信。子曰:"听讼,吾犹(you)人也(ye)。必也使无(wu)讼乎!"无情者(zhe)不得(de)尽其辞,大畏(wei)民志。此谓知本。
