《诗》云:"瞻彼淇(qi)澳,侵疋⑩。有斐君子,如(ru)切如(ru)磋,如琢(zhuo)如磨。瑟兮兮,赫兮(xi)暄兮(xi)。有斐(fei)君(jun1)子,终(zhong)不(bu)可召猓""如切如(ru)磋"者,道学也。"如琢如(ru)磨"者(zhe),自修也。"瑟兮兮"者,恂也(ye)。"赫兮喧(xuan)兮(xi)"者,威仪也。"有(you)斐君(jun1)子,终不可召"者,道盛(sheng)德至(zhi)善(shan),民之不能(neng)忘也(ye)。《诗(shi)》云(yun):"于戏前王(wang)不忘!"君子(zi)贤其贤(xian)而(er)亲其亲,小(xiao)人乐其乐(le)而利其利,此(ci)以没世不忘也。《康(kang)诰》曰:"克(ke)明(ming)德。"《大甲(jia)》曰:"顾天之(zhi)明命(ming)。"《帝典》曰:"克明(ming)峻德。"皆(jie)自明(ming)也(ye)。汤(tang)之《盘铭》曰:"苟日新(xin),日日新,又日新(xin)。"《康(kang)诰(gao)》曰:"作新(xin)民。"《诗》曰:"周虽旧邦,其命惟新(xin)。"是(shi)故君(jun1)子无所不用其(qi)极。《诗》云:"邦(bang)畿(ji)千里,惟民所(suo)止。"《诗》云(yun):"缗蛮黄鸟,止(zhi)于丘隅(yu)。"子曰:"于止,知(zhi)其(qi)所止。可以人而不(bu)如鸟(niao)乎?"《诗(shi)》云:"穆穆文王,于(yu)缉熙敬(jing)止(zhi)!"为(wei)人(ren)君,止于仁;为(wei)人臣(chen),止于(yu)敬;为人子(zi),止(zhi)于(yu)孝;为人父,止于慈;与(yu)国人交,止于信。子(zi)曰:"听讼,吾犹人也。必(bi)也使(shi)无(wu)讼(song)乎!"无情者(zhe)不(bu)得尽其辞,大畏民(min)志。此谓(wei)知(zhi)本。
